Chapter 1

Ok I guess before you actually hear this story you should know who I am. I’m Miki Koto. I’m 13 years old and I live with my mother in the city of Hiktokama. Many people believe that Hiktokama is a very strange city, a city with many secrets. I always thought that was just a myth, but boy was I wrong.

“BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP”  That was the very annoying sound that woke me up. The sound of my alarm clock. I gazed at the clock with my eyes half-open and suddenly a rush of panick went through me. It was 10:30. School had started an hour and 30 minutes ago. I scrambled out of bed as fast as I could and put on some clothes without even looking at what they were. You see on any other day if I was this late  I wouldn’t even bother to go to school, but today was exam day in math class. I was already failing and I had to take this test or I would fail even if I did a million extra credit assignments. I snatched my bag and rushed out the door. Suddenly I heard my mom calling my name.

“MIKI! MIKI WAIT!”

I couldn’t wait, besides this exam was way more important than anything my mom had to tell me. Then I saw a girl staring at me and for some reason that made me stop.
The girl had dark blonde hair with black highlights and was wearing punk style clothing. She had headphones on and was listening to music. Just by looking at the expression on her face, I could tell she thought I had gone mad.

“….um what are you doing?” she asked bewildered.

“I’m trying to get to school! Why aren’t you at school? Come on let’s go we’re LATE!” I replied without thinking.

“………..Are you ok?” she blinked.

“Of course I’m ok!” I said, puzzled.

She laughed a little, “It’s Saturday since when do we have school on Saturdays?”

“s-saturday?” I stuttered “n-no that can’t be right its tues-” right then my mom ran over and interrupted.

“MIKI! Miki I told you to wait! Why didn’t you stop?” She panted, out of breath.

“Mom you told me it was Tuesday.” I muttered.

“Miki dear that’s why I told you to wait! I forgot that it was Saturday!” She said “I’m so sorry! I mean this week has just been crazy, with work and all the customers! and”

I stopped her, “Its fine mom, I’m gonna go home now.” I said quietly.

While I was studying in my room there was I knock on my door.

“Miki can I come in dear?” my mom asked.

“Yeah” I sighed.

She opened the door and came in.

“Look Miki I’m very sorry about what happened earlier today.”

“Mom I told you its fine.”

“Well alright. But the reason I came was to tell you that someone’s here to see you”

“Huh?”

Who in the world would be here to see me? I thought. I had no friends, and didn’t really know a lot of people, so I couldn’t think of anyone that could be here to see me.

Suddenly the girl from earlier today came in.

Why her? Out of all the 6 billion people in the world why was she here? I mean I didn’t have anything against her, but I really didn’t want to see a person who thought I was mentally ill.

“Hi I’m Amara” she smiled.

“Um hi I’m Miki” I said and managed a smile.

“Well I’m going to leave you to girls alone, I have some cookies to bake.” my mom said cheerfully, and left.

“Hey I’m sorry about what happened earlier today, I didn’t mean to make you feel bad.” Amara said.

“Oh um uh yeah uh its fine” I replied nervously.

“I really like your room” she said looking around.

“Thanks”

She looked at a drawing and exclaimed “This is so good! Did you draw it?!”

“Oh that? um yeah I drew it” responded, blushing a little.

Her face lit up as she looked at some more drawings.

“Hey um do you want some orange juice?” I asked

“Sure” she replied and came over.

I poured in some orange juice into two plastic cups and suddenly my hand hit one of them and it fell. But then, Amara grabbed it faster than the speed of time and put it back on the counter, when I could have sworn I saw it fall and spill.

“Woah. How did you do that?” I asked, astonished.

“This orange juice is delicious!” she pointed out, trying to change the subject.

“Oh um yeah I guess it is. My mom made it” I replied, still thinking how she picked the cup up so fast.

You might be thinking it was probably just a lucky catch or something but this was no lucky catch. The juice spilled and she caught the cup and the there was nothing on the floor. That was just so bizarre.

Right then my mom walked in.

“Miki! Amara! I brought cookies! They’re fresh and hot right out of the oven!” mom announced.

Amara took one and ate it. “Yum! These are really good Ms.Koto!”

“Oh thank you sweetheart they’re my special secret recipe cookies”

“Well they’re totally scrumptious!”

Then, my mom saw a crumpled piece of paper on the ground and picked it up. She opened it and she shouted, “MIKI KOTO! WHATS THIS? ANOTHER D?!” THIS IS YOUR SEVENTH ONE THIS MONTH!”

“Mom I-I I’ve been trying really hard I swear!” I stammered.

“OH REALLY? THEN EXPLAIN WHY YOU GOT FOUR D’S ON YOUR REPORT CARD!” She barked.

Then Amara broke in and said, “um Ms.Koto I have to go, my mom is expecting me right now, thank you for the cookies and everything. “

” Alright dear, and I’m glad you enjoyed the cookies, goodbye.” mom smiled.

“Bye Miki!” Amara exclaimed and quickly left.

I knew she really didn’t have to go, she just didn’t want to be here at a moment like this.

“Miki you are GROUNDED FOR THREE WEEKS! And EVERY day you will study for one hour and THEN finish your homework”

“Start studying NOW!”

She left the room.

I snatched my Algebra textbook and started studying. Amara probably thinks I’m stupidest person alive and that my mom is physco. How peachy.
